A unique riverside home office and replacement rear extension.
This was a distinctive project in the village of Tixover. Situated along the picturesque banks of the river, the structure is carefully crafted to provide a serene and inspiring workspace while minimising its impact on the environment. Its placement between house and river offers breath-taking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the tranquil river and its lush greenery. This connection with nature promotes a sense of well-being and enhances productivity when working within the structure, providing a feeling of being away from it all
Structures near water come with their own architectural and structural challenges – the siting of the office took on board the existing sloped landscape, whilst also having an eye on historic (and possible future) water levels. Solar shading was also front and centre of the design due to the orientation of the site. To complete the full renovation of the rear area of the property, the project brief included the replacement of an existing conservatory style structure with a single storey stone and zinc structure and the creation of a timber decked area.
The Clients brief was to create a standalone home office by the water – and what a home office it is! Its innovative design embraces nature and the needs of modern life, blending into its environment whilst offering a functional and inspiring workplace.
"I would recommend Tom for any construction project. As a builder, I have had the pleasure of working with him on several projects and have consistently been impressed with his attention to detail and high quality of his drawings. He is always organized, communicative, and willing to collaborate and problem solve as needed to ensure the project goes smoothly."
A stunning home office structure with views across the river and rolling landscape beyond.
The exterior of the office is adorned with timber cladding, which creates a warm and inviting aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Large floor to ceiling sliding doors dominate two of the facades, inviting an abundance of natural light to flood the internal space. The replacement extension used materials to complement and link the existing dwelling and the new office, stone walls with a zinc roof.
This project involved close collaboration between Architect, Client, Structural Engineer and Contractor to ensure all details met the required brief. The result is this stunning space created within the garden, enabling the Clients to get away from it all without going too far at all!
