A two storey side extension to a unique property within walking distance of Uppingham town centre, in Rutland.
The Clients brief was to extend the existing to create a five bedroom property with integrated garage and enlarged front driveway. The result is a property that has been completely renovated and extended to open it up into a fabulous family home with open plan living and a spectacular kitchen.
The existing property was a three bedroom detached property with a detached garage which abutted the footpath and as such made vehicular access to the site incredibly difficult. Removing the existing garage enabled us to make the most of the spacious plot. A new formal front driveway/parking area was created with a new integrated garage set back from the pavement. A key stage of the design process was to create a two storey extension that visually suited the existing whilst ensuring it remained subordinate to the existing property, when viewed from the street scene.
Internally, two additional bedrooms with ensuites were created at first floor level which are spacious and filled with natural light. At ground floor level, a large garage, utility room, downstairs shower room and open plan kitchen, dining and living area were created. A key aim of the design was to improve the links between internal and external spaces. The plot is blessed with a large rear garden and it was an important aim of the Clients to improve access and views to this from all areas of the property.
