Sensitive & respectful additions of a charming cottage, enhancing its external aesthetics and internal spaces.

The project consisted of several elements; two storey side extension, loft conversion above garage and new front porch structure. The two storey side extension is designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing while providing the required additional living spaces and enhancing the overall functionality of the dwelling. The design concept was a simple one, focus on preserving the rustic charm and traditional aesthetics of the cottage while introducing modern elements and maximising natural light.

Externally the materials chosen for the various additions complements the existing utilizing similar materials and maintaining visual harmony. The thatched roof continues across the extension, ensuring a consistent and cohesive appearance to the front elevation. Careful attention was paid to the proportions and scales of the additional to ensure they complemented the cottages original architecture.

 

 

THE RESULT

The final design seamlessly blends old and new, preserving the character of the existing property while providing modern comforts and functional living spaces.

Throughout the extensions and the existing property, sustainable and energy efficient design principles were incorporated. From locally sourced materials to improvements in insulation levels throughout efforts were made to ensure the environment impact was minimised and the energy performance of the property enhanced.
